High Acres Llama Ranch

2008 Crias

This is High Acres Naomi, born March 3, 2008 during a cold, windy day. I knew early in the morning that her mom was in labor, but tried to keep myself busy and glance out the window to watch for birthing progress. Finally after a quick sandwich around 11:45 I decided to go check up close and personal and walked out the door just in time to see her drop. She's already gaining over a pound a day and filling out. The picture to the left was made at 2 days old.

Naomi's mom is Sarai, one of the first babies born on the ranch and of course a favorite and her dad is Valentino who's now moved on to other pastures.

Naomi is being offered for sale at $1500.

Here's another shot of her standing in front of her half brother Obadiah (Obie), who at one month old is already eating pellets.

This is High Acres Obadiah. He was born on February 1st about 10 days early. He started out small, but he's very strong and healthy now and very glad to finally get a playmate in Naomi. His mom is GHLC Maggie Mae and his dad is Stargazer's Valentino.

Obie is already learning to eat pellets, the youngest on my ranch to do so.

Obie currently has really soft fluffy fiber that you want to just scrunch your fingers in.

He is for sale to a loving home and I'm asking $400 for him.

2007 Crias

My 4th and final cria of the spring was also born on April 16, about 3 hours after Holly had her girl below. Babies are not usually born as late as 5PM so I was really surprised when I noticed Tess suddenly in the birthing position. This is High Acres Noah, and he weighed 28.5 lb. and was also a very strong, healthy baby. When I went out after finally eating a bite, he was already running around and exploring.

Here's another head shot , and a body shot of right after he was born showing the pretty silver highlights on the back of his ears.

On April 16, the 3rd cria of the season was born around 2 PM. Holly's "official" due date was Easter Sunday, but I guess she wanted her to be a bit bigger. High Acres Lily of the Valley weighed in at 32# and was up and nursing within the hour.

I'd sort of given up on anyone birthing today so went to town to have lunch with friends. I came home and starting looking for the two remaining females that I was waiting on to birth and found Holly out in the pasture, with the head and legs already out.

Lily is mostly white, but has some dilute reddish areas on her head, neck, back and legs, in addition to a bit of iodine that I spilled on her.

Here's another picture of her after she dried off a bit. She already looks 2 weeks old!

I caught this sweet moment between Lily and her mom Holly, and here's another closeup of maybe curls on her face?

UPDATE: Lily has sold, along with her mother Holly to John and Kim Todaro, Elysian Fields, Tx.  Congratulations and thank you to John and Kim.

The second cria of 2007 arrived a week later than scheduled. I guess he and mom didn't read the book. Anyway, he's another beautiful appaloosa boy that was born on 3/29 in scattered rain showers. I've named him High Acres Isaiah. His devoted dilute appaloosa mom in Tapestry. This is her first baby and she had him, thankfully, without any problems.  He weighed in at 23# and was up walking around within the hour.

He looks like he's going to have very high luster fiber.

Here's an updated photo at almost 3 weeks old. He thinks this tree might be tasty.

Update: Isaiah has sold to Tammy Kasper, Kasper's Miniatures, Giddings, Tx. Congratulations and Thank you!

The first cria of 2007 surprised me by being born 2 weeks before I thought the first cria was due. His name is High Acres Elijah and he was born Feb. 6. The picture to the right is at 1 day old. He weighed in at 25.5 # and was actively trying to get up almost immediately. His birth was normal and easy for mom, or so it appeared. Just a few moments before she'd been cushed and calmly chewing her cud, then got up, pushed a few minutes and out he came. His father is our white stud Stargazer's Valentino, and his mom is Sable's Black Merita. Even though his grandmother on his sire's side is an appaloosa, I was still very surprised to find out that Merita could throw an appie.

Eli will be for sale but cannot leave home until he is weaned, unless he goes with his mom who is also for sale.

He currently has very soft curly fiber, almost greasy feeling to the touch. He will be handled each day to accustom him to calmly stand for haltering and future shearing etc.

Update:  Eli has sold to Tammy Kasper at Kasper's Miniatures, Giddings, Tx. Congratulations and Thank you!

2006 Crias

Sean weighed in at 25 lb. and teeth erupted. He's out of my former stud and Merit son, Sogno.

At one week old, Sean already has a lot of presence and you can see the auburn color underneath the black in this picture.

UPDATE: SOLD!! Congratulations and thank you to the Winters of Fredericksburg, Tx. on their purchase of this fine young male. Also they decided to rename him Henry the Eighth, and since he was so young, he didn't mind a bit.

High Acres Isabelle was born around 11:15 AM on 3/23 just like crias are supposed to be born, unlike Sean's overnight appearance.  She's not quite a carbon copy of Sean. She's coal black, where Sean has auburn undertones and even on her birth day, she is already taller and at 29# outweighs him . Nevertheless, he was ecstatic to discover a playmate. At only a couple of hours old she was already running. Her coat is high luster, solid black. We're thrilled to have a "little" girl to spoil. Isabelle is out of Holly and our former stud Sogno. Her full brother was a black and white paint so we were surprised to see a solid black. She already is exhibiting the same proud stance her dad has.

UPDATE: SOLD!! Congratulations and thank you to the Winters, Fredericksburg, Tx.

High Acres Lou April made her appearance on a beautiful Sunday afternoon, April 2.  She's out of my special pet, Sarai, and I'd really hoped to get a little girl I could spoil. She was a petite little thing, only 20#, which I'm sure Sarai appreciated during birthing. She has the same red color as her mom and some similar markings, except for her head and neck. One distinct feature is the white side of her head where she looks like she has black eyeliner, but white eyelashes.

I'd waited 3 years to get another cria from Sarai, since she didn't like my senior stud Sogno. She would breed with a former stud that we had retained breedings to, so Lou April's dad is Sunny Springer. He was known for his silky, curly fiber and I can see some of the Springer like curls on her neck especially.  She also sports ruby slippers on her front feet just like her mom and she has appie spots on her ears and tummy.

We're really looking forward to watching this girl grow up! I'll be able to since she sold to the Winters here in town. At almost 4 months old she has personality +.
